The Chairman of the Parliamentary Ad-hoc Committee, Emmanuel Bedzrah, has announced that the probe into the recent chaos during the vetting process at the Appointments Committee will resume on Friday, February 7, 2025.
This announcement follows an unexpected suspension of proceedings on Wednesday, February 5, initially linked to a directive from Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin. However, it was later clarified that the suspension had been ordered by the Clerk of Parliament without the Speaker’s consent.
In an interview on Thursday, February 6, the Ho West MP confirmed that Speaker Bagbin has now issued explicit instructions for the committee to continue its work.
“I need to meet with my committee members this morning. We agreed to hold a meeting at 3 o’clock, by which time I would have received further details from the speaker. For today, there won’t be any public hearings, but we will resume tomorrow [Friday, February 7],” Mr. Bedzrah stated.
Elaborating further, he said, “The Speaker called and said, ‘No, we can not stop this work. We should continue.’ He has given direct instructions to the Clerk of Parliament for us to proceed.”
The committee’s probe, which has captured significant public and political attention, is expected to delve deeper into the events that disrupted the vetting process, aiming to restore public confidence in Parliament’s vetting mechanisms.
