Parliament to Adjourn Indefinitely on March 28

Ghana’s Parliament is set to adjourn indefinitely (sine die) on Friday, March 28, following the conclusion of its current session. This was disclosed by the Deputy Majority Leader, Rickets Kweku Hagan, while presenting the Business Statement for the week ahead on March 12.

To ensure the House completes all pending business before adjournment, Mr. Hagan announced extended sittings from Monday, March 24, to Friday, March 28. According to him, the extended schedule is necessary to allow Parliament ample time to address critical matters, including the passage of key bills.

“The Business Committee proposes extended sittings beyond the prescribed hours for the ensuing week. This is to afford the House ample time to exhaust the business at hand,” he stated.

For the week beginning Monday, March 24, sittings will commence at 12 noon from Monday to Wednesday, enabling committees to meet and finalize their reports in the mornings. However, plenary sessions will begin earlier at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.

The Deputy Majority Leader emphasized the importance of expedited work by committee chairpersons on the Annual Budget Estimates to facilitate the timely passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill. He urged all Members of Parliament to remain committed to the scheduled business during the final week of the session to ensure a smooth conclusion.

“As we approach the last week of the first meeting of the first session, I encourage all members to devote themselves fully to the tasks ahead so we can adjourn as planned,” Mr. Hagan urged.

The adjournment will mark the end of the first meeting of the current parliamentary session, paving the way for the House to reconvene later in the year to address other national issues.
