Overflowing Sewage in Tema Metropolis Poses Health Threat, Forces Businesses to Close

A severe sanitation crisis is unfolding in the Tema Metropolis as overflowing sewage from large soak-away pits in public places and markets creates unbearable stench and poses a serious health hazard to residents and business owners.

The situation has led to the forced closure of several shops, with traders and vendors struggling to cope with the unhygienic conditions.

Speaking to Ahotor News, some affected shop owners expressed their frustration, describing the situation as both a public health risk and a major blow to their livelihoods.

They revealed that the persistent foul odor and potential contamination have driven customers away, making it impossible for them to continue operations.

Residents and traders are calling on the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and relevant authorities to take immediate action to resolve the crisis.

They fear that if left unchecked, the unsanitary conditions could lead to outbreaks of diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
