The Volta Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Pascal Agbagba, has revealed that over 600 residents in Ketu South have been displaced due to severe coastal erosion.
Many of the affected individuals, including women and children, have been forced to seek refuge in schools and other temporary shelters.
Mr. Agbagba expressed deep concern over the growing humanitarian crisis and urged the government to prioritize the completion of the Sea Defence Project, which he believes is crucial in preventing further devastation in the region.
He stressed that without immediate intervention, more communities along the coastline could face displacement, loss of livelihoods, and destruction of critical infrastructure.
Residents have been calling for urgent measures to protect their homes from the encroaching sea, as the destruction continues to threaten lives and economic activities.
Mr. Agbagba assured that NADMO is working closely with local authorities and relief agencies to provide temporary support, but he emphasized that a long-term solution is needed to safeguard coastal communities.
