The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Ako Gunn, has criticized the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for comparing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s achievements to those of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Ako Gunn stated that the NPP running mate’s comparison is a misguided and insulting affront to the legacy of Ghana’s founding father.
During his unveiling in Kumasi on Tuesday, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, claimed that no president, including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has developed Ghana as much as President Akufo-Addo has since 2017.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem’ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, the Deputy National NDC Communications Officer argued that Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy is unmatched, making such comparisons unjust and illogical.
Ako Gunn also criticized the manner in which the NPP unveiled their running mate, noting that it was poorly executed compared to how the NDC did it.
He pointed out that NAPO was only presented to Otumfuor and the Asanteman, with other chiefs not being invited.
“Napo has only been presented to Otumfuor and Asanteman; he wasn’t presented to the whole of Ghana. If so, other chiefs would have been invited,” he said.
He suggested that Ghana will become more divided due to Otumfuor’s remarks about NAPO. Ako Gunn believed the presentation should have been done in a more general setting to show unity among various chiefs and the country as a whole.
He also mentioned that Otumfuor tried to advise NAPO to change his ways, as his arrogant reputation was concerning. However, right after leaving the Manhyia Palace, NAPO demonstrated his arrogance again by disrespecting Kwame Nkrumah.
“Napo’s arrogance was a concern for Otumfuor, so he advised him to change his ways. But immediately after leaving Otumfuor’s place, he displayed his arrogance again by insulting Kwame Nkrumah. Kwame Nkrumah was named Man of the Century, and even Nelson Mandela respected him. But NAPO, who just wants to become vice president, is disrespecting Kwame Nkrumah.”
Ako Gunn questioned why the NPP running mate should even compare Kwame Nkrumah’s achievements to those of Akufo-Addo.
He urged Ghanaians to vote the NPP out of office, claiming that their arrogance has brought extra hardship and mismanagement to the country.
He said that the right person to change the fortunes of the country is the NDC’s Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
