Otto Addo Praises Black Stars’ Second-Half Fight against Nigeria
Black Stars coach Otto Addo has commended his team’s improved performance in the second half of their 2025 Unity Cup semifinal match against Nigeria.
Despite losing 2-1, Addo was impressed with the team’s fight and the promise shown by several players.
Ghana fell behind 2-0 in the first half, with Cyriel Dessers scoring and Razak Simpson netting an own goal. However, the Black Stars responded positively after the break, with substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante scoring a well-taken volley in the 70th minute.
Addo highlighted his satisfaction with the team’s second-half display, saying, “The second half was really good, I have to say. Though we lost, I’m happy about the second half.”
With several key players absent, Addo fielded a mix of youth and experience, giving opportunities to debutants and fringe players. While the result denied Ghana a place in the final, Addo believes the performance offers a solid foundation as the team builds towards upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana will now face Trinidad & Tobago in the third-place playoff on Saturday. Addo’s praise for his team’s second-half performance suggests that he sees potential for growth and improvement, and he will look to build on this momentum in the team’s upcoming matches.
