Otto Addo Addresses Andre Ayew’s Black Stars Future
Black Stars coach Otto Addo has shed light on Andre Ayew’s status with the national team, stating that the veteran forward remains an option but will only be invited when necessary.
Ayew, 35, has been absent from the squad since Addo’s return in March 2024, sparking speculation about his future with the team.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Addo clarified that Ayew is not entirely ruled out, saying, “If we need Andre Ayew, we will call him. At the moment, I see others ahead of him.”
This stance suggests that while Ayew’s experience and skills are valued, the coach is currently favoring other players.
Despite being overlooked by the Black Stars, Ayew has been in impressive form for French Ligue 1 side Le Havre, scoring four goals in 11 starts this season. His consistent performance at the club level has raised questions about his omission from the national team.
In Andre Ayew’s absence, his younger brother Jordan Ayew has taken on the mantle of Black Stars captain, leading the team to victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana currently tops Group I with 15 points and four games left to play, with Jordan Ayew playing a key role in their success.
