The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly warned its supporters to refrain from unlawfully seizing or destroying government properties reportedly misappropriated by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This comes in response to reports of incidents involving alleged unlawful takeovers and vandalism of state assets by some individuals.
Party executives have called for calm, emphasizing that such matters should be handled by the appropriate authorities to ensure lawful and orderly governance during the transition period.
Call for Calm and Lawful Conduct
Speaking at a press briefing at President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s office on December 16, Deputy National Youth Organizer of the NDC Osman Ayariga addressed the issue, urging supporters to be vigilant and Prevent Theft of State Assets by NPP.
“We appeal to all NDC supporters to remain calm and avoid unlawful acts. Any suspected cases of theft or mismanagement of government property must be reported to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation and action,” Osman Ayariga said.
Message to Party Leaders and Youth Organizers
He particularly directed his message to the party’s youth organizers and regional and constituency executives, calling on them to take proactive steps to prevent such incidents.
He encouraged them to lead by example foster a culture of discipline and protect the properties of the country.
He underscored the importance of maintaining order during the transition period, noting that NPP-affiliated government officials should be checked in their duties until the handover process is formally completed.
Vigilance Against Theft
While calling for calm, Osman Ayariga also urged supporters to remain vigilant in safeguarding public property.
He encouraged them to promptly report any suspicious activity or attempts to steal state assets to the police or relevant authorities.
“It is our duty as citizens to protect state property. If you suspect any act of theft or misappropriation, report it immediately to the police. Let us avoid violence and focus on working together to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition,” he added.
Commitment to Orderly Transition
The NDC leadership has reiterated its commitment to an orderly and lawful transfer of power.
The party emphasized that any illegal activities during the transition period would undermine Ghana’s democratic principles and the trust of the electorate.
By appealing to its supporters for calm and cooperation, the NDC aims to uphold its reputation as a party that prioritizes national unity and the rule of law during this critical period of governance transition.
