Ahotoronline.com/ Ahotor News has learned that, the National Democratic Congress'(NDC) extended “olive branch” gateway to court grassroots mobilization known as the ‘Unity Walk’ would soon ravaged the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi as hinted by sources affiliated to this news portal.
The news comes after barely a week after the Party staged a triumphant and mammoth Unity walk in Wa of the upper West region, which recorded thousands of party grassroots, sympathizers, bigwigs such as: Party’s general Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, former appointees and Ministers’ of state, Mr. Julius Debrah (former chief of staff) National organizer, Mr. Kofi Adams including the presence of former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Drammani Mahama were all in attendance.
After the defeat of the 2016 polls which saw the exit of the Mahama led regime from government, the National functionaries of the Party through one of the recommendations by the Professor Kwesi Botway Committee instituted a healing process mechanism to calm nerves and anxieties about the expression of acrimonious sentiments and furore which characterized the painful defeat by the NDC and out of the ten regions the organizers through the tacit assistance and involvement of the regional and constituency scribes have held similar Unity Walks in about 8-9 regions respectively.
The organisers have opined the past unity walks’ have been highly patronized with massive attendance which sends shivers down the spine of the NPP who happens to be their closets political rivalry.Some of the regions covered by the UNITY WALK, so far included the Brong Ahafo, Western, Greater Accra , Eastern, Central amongst others.
Our desk assignments’ Bereau correspondents have reported that the euphoric spectacle in the Ashanti region is very ecstatic with many supporters as well as ordinary citizens from all the 49 constituencies of the region are preparing feverishly as they awaits the highly anticipated and much publicized event.
Subsequently, the presence of the former President, John Drammai Mahama will be a huge influence to the program and he’s expected to participate according to our intelligence gathered so far from the corridors of the party.
The event has been scheduled on the 28th April, 2018. It’s however unclear which location will be chosen by the organizers to host the event. The Ashanti regional executives have revealed to this platform that, they will soon abreast the public about the roadmaps of the program.
But for all intends and purposes, the walk would be expected to draw people from both far and near across the region.However, the Ashanti region has over the years sting the NDC in terms of trend in voting and declarations of results with many doubtful of the NDC’s impact on subsequent political seasons.
This has epitomized the ruling government’s grip on the region as its electoral world bank in successive elections. The NPP gunning 78% as against unsatisfactory votes of about 25% by the NDC during the last elections in the Presidential slots.
Currently, the ruling New Patriotic Party have 44 parliamentary seats whereas the main opposition NDC trailed with only 3 seat in parliament
Though political pundits have christened the region as a no go area for the NDC.
The top echelons in the party however claimed they are unperturbed and would remain very steadily to accelerate cogent working strategies to galvanized supports for the party ahead of the 2020 elections.
