Good morning!
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin welcomed members to a three-day orientation workshop for the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. The workshop aims to equip MPs with essential skills in parliamentary procedures, lobbying, advocacy, and debating.
Bagbin emphasized the importance of collaboration, acceptance, and adherence to agreed-upon norms, rules, culture, and etiquette. He also stressed the need for an impartial, fair, and firm referee to guide the parliamentary process.
The workshop covers various topics, including:
– Rights of the Majority and Minority: Understanding the roles and responsibilities of each group
– Conflict Management and Consensus Building: Developing skills to navigate disagreements and build consensus
– Responsibilities of Members of Parliament: Understanding the duties and obligations of MPs
– Effective Legislature: Mastering the rules of procedure to effectively participate in parliamentary business
– Advocacy, Lobbying, and Negotiation: Developing skills to advocate for constituents and negotiate with stakeholders
– Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Services and Capital: Understanding how to effectively monitor and evaluate public services and capital projects
The Speaker encouraged MPs to take the workshop seriously, prioritize learning, and develop self-leadership skills to succeed in their roles.
