Founder and Leader of the Union Government, Akwasi Addai Odike, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to establish a national flood relief donation account to enable Ghanaians and corporate institutions to support victims of the recent floods across the country.

Speaking on Yepe Ahunu, a political talk show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Nana Dogbe, Odike said he would personally contribute GH¢10,000 if the government created a transparent and accountable account dedicated to flood relief efforts.

According to him, many individuals and organisations are willing to support flood victims financially but require an official platform through which they can channel their donations.

“I will donate GH¢10,000 if President Mahama creates an account for donations to support flood victims. Government should open an account for Ghanaians who have the means to contribute whatever they can to help those affected,” he said.

Odike noted that with forecasts indicating more rainfall in the coming weeks, Ghana must adopt a proactive approach to disaster preparedness by mobilising additional resources to support relief operations.

He said a national donation account would complement government interventions by providing much-needed assistance to families whose homes, businesses and livelihoods have been affected by the floods.

The Union Government leader further urged the government to ensure that any flood relief fund is managed with transparency and accountability to inspire public confidence and encourage widespread participation.

He also called on corporate organisations, religious bodies, civil society organisations and philanthropists to support the initiative, stressing that responding to natural disasters should be a shared national responsibility.
According to Odike, the devastating impact of the recent floods requires a united national response to help affected communities recover and rebuild.

His appeal comes as government and emergency response agencies continue relief efforts in flood-hit communities following recent heavy rains that claimed lives, displaced residents and destroyed homes and other property in several parts of the country.
