Olympique Lyonnais Complete Signing of Danish-Ghanaian Midfield Talent Noah Nartey from Brøndby IF

French giants Olympique Lyonnais have secured the services of promising Danish-born Ghanaian midfielder Noah Nartey from Brøndby IF in a deal finalized on January 19, 2026, during the winter transfer window.

The 20-year-old, born on October 5, 2005, in Bagsværd, Denmark, stands at 1.80m tall, is right-footed, and primarily operates as an attacking midfielder, though he has shown versatility across central midfield, defensive midfield, right wing, and even as a forward in certain setups.

Nartey joined Brøndby’s youth system at the age of 15 and rapidly progressed to become a key first-team figure in the Danish Superliga. Over his time there—particularly shining in the 2025/26 campaign—he accumulated impressive numbers, including 7 goals and several assists across league and cup appearances, demonstrating sharp technical skills, excellent vision, dribbling ability in tight spaces, relentless pressing, and strong decision-making under pressure.

His energetic style, combined with an aggressive edge and composure on the ball, has made him one of Scandinavia’s most exciting young talents, earning him caps for Denmark’s U21 national team.

Lyon, under their current recruitment strategy focused on high-potential youth who can grow into long-term assets, identified Nartey as a long-term target and moved decisively in the January market to add creativity and dynamism to their midfield options at Groupama Stadium.

The transfer sees Lyon paying an initial fixed fee of €7.5 million, with the package potentially rising to €10 million through performance-based add-ons of up to €2.5 million. Brøndby negotiated a solid 20% sell-on clause, ensuring they profit from any future sale.

Nartey has committed to a contract running until June 30, 2030—effectively a four-and-a-half-year deal from the mid-season move—reflecting the club’s strong confidence in his development trajectory.

Despite his Ghanaian heritage making him eligible for the Black Stars, Nartey has so far prioritized his Danish international pathway, though some reports suggest he remains open to a future switch.

The Ghana FA has previously shown interest, but he publicly emphasized his focus on Denmark. This move represents a major step up for the player into one of Europe’s top leagues, where he will compete in Ligue 1 and potentially European competitions, adapting to higher intensity and tactical demands under manager Paulo Fonseca.
