Tyson Fury said on Instagram that Oleksandr Usyk would “feel his wrath” in their impending rematch. Oleksandr Usyk responded angrily.
The 37-year-old emerged victorious from a rough opening few rounds of the bout to end up as the undisputed heavyweight champion in May after defeating the Gypsy King on points.
The contract for the fight expires on December 31 and a rematch is set for December 21. To give the two boxers time to heal from their varied facial injuries, the show has been postponed.
The British fighter’s chance for retribution is anticipated to occur in Saudi Arabia once more and to build excitement for the bout, both competitors have been verbally attacking one another.
The latest exchange of ill will began with a bullish post appearing on Fury’s Instagram account which threatens to make his opponent regret agreeing to a rematch.
It reads: ‘U about a half feel the wrath of the Gypsy King.
‘Should have finished when you had the chance!’
The text is superimposed over a picture of Usyk punching Fury in the face during their May brawl, along with an emoji of a bunny rabbit.
The unphased Ukrainian reposted the Instagram story and replied: ‘You’re really cool, my friend.’
Playing over the champion’s rebuttal is the song Hit Em Up by Tupac Shakur, an infamous diss track towards rapper Notorious B.I.G released at the height of the West Coast versus East Coast feud.
In the ninth round of an intense battle, Usyk nearly finished Fury out by rocking the British fighter with a barrage of 14 unanswered blows that had Fury clinging to the ropes for support.
The Ukrainian has previously stated he can improve on his performance from the first battle and do even better in the rematch, but the Gypsy King managed to withstand the assault and finish the fight.
Usyk, who defeated Fury in May to win the undisputed heavyweight title, will take against the “Gypsy King” one more in Saudi Arabia on December 21. Shortly after the fight, Fury challenged the champion to a rematch, and the winner accepted.
