Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has labeled recent claims about a political agenda orchestrated by certain figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as bizarre and politically incorrect. The allegations revolve around a document titled “Agyapadie,” which purportedly outlines a strategy to manipulate state transactions and gain undue advantages.
Okyenhene Ofori Panin, who has previously received corporate social responsibility funds from the National Petroleum Authority, criticized the document’s portrayal of the ruling government’s political sphere. He argued that the claims are unfounded and reflect a broader attempt to discredit him and his associates.
The Okyenhene noted that his involvement in the “Agyapadie” scheme is a mischaracterization. He emphasized that while he has benefited from various initiatives, he and his fellow chiefs are not part of any such political arrangement.
The controversy highlights growing tensions within the NPP, with accusations suggesting that certain party members are engaged in schemes that could undermine state integrity.
The Senior lecturer of University of Cape Coast and a political analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere express this onpion on Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM and hosted by Alex Nana Dogbey in Accra.
Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has dismissed a controversial document titled “Agyapadie” as a complete fabrication. The document, which has recently resurfaced, allegedly outlines a strategy for the Akyem people to dominate Ghana’s economy and features the Okyenhene’s image. He denounces it as part of a long-standing campaign of misinformation against his household and the Okyeman.
In a recent meeting of the Akyem Abuakwa State Council, Okyenhene urged his people and the public to disregard the document, questioning the motives behind its creation. He emphasized that the Ofori Panin Fie has not engaged in any extraordinary activities to justify such accusations.
The Okyenhene also noted that the Eastern Region had more representation in former President Kufuor’s cabinet compared to President Akufo-Addo’s, suggesting that the current controversy aims to incite hostility towards the Akyem people. He recalled similar documents, such as the “Akyem Project,” which circulated before the 2016 elections and were intended to stir discord between the Okyeman and Asanteman.
Okyenhene criticized these efforts, stating that the latest iteration of the document, known as “Agyapadie,” emerged in 2020 amidst political discussions about the Agyapa business.
He further stated that, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), addressed to supporters at the party’s campaign launch in Tamale on July 27, 2024. Mahama called for vigilance in the upcoming 2024 general elections, urging party members to protect ballot boxes and ensure all votes are counted accurately, was appropriate and timely.
And commended Mahama on his commitment to overhauling the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. He promised to abolish the double-track system, which has faced criticism, and ensure that all SHS students attend school simultaneously.
“We will enhance the Free SHS program and work to eliminate the double-track system so that students can attend school together and avoid long breaks,” Mahama pledged. “We want to ensure that students do not face extended periods away from school.”
