The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has criticised the inclusion of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in the funeral brochure of the late former head of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Dr. Isaac Akuetteh Bampoe Addo.
Mr. Koomson believes it was inappropriate for the former Finance Minister, who has been declared a fugitive by Ghanaian authorities, to be featured in the funeral brochure to pay tribute to the late labour leader.
His comments follow a glowing posthumous tribute paid by Mr. Ofori-Atta to Dr. Bampoe Addo during his funeral service at the State House forecourt in Accra on November 7, 2026.
In his tribute, Mr. Ofori-Atta affectionately described the late CLOGSAG leader as the “Lion King”, in recognition of his commanding presence, courage and leadership.
He praised Dr. Bampoe Addo as a bold, well-prepared and formidable negotiator who consistently defended the interests of workers and civil servants while demonstrating a strong commitment to protecting the national interest and supporting Ghana’s economic recovery.
Mr. Ofori-Atta also recalled their engagements during some of the country’s most difficult economic moments, including the COVID-19 pandemic and negotiations surrounding the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).
He further suggested that Dr. Bampoe Addo deserved a personal “Purple Heart” for his service and called on the nation to recognise and honour him posthumously.
However, Abraham Koomson posting on his wall questioned the decision to give Mr. Ofori-Atta such recognition at the funeral, arguing that it should not be tolerated at a time when Ghanaians are demanding his return to the country to answer questions over his stewardship of the economy.
According to him, the inclusion of the former Finance Minister sends the wrong message, particularly amid calls for his arrest and accountability over allegations of economic mismanagement.
