Ghana international defender Abdul Mumin has completed his move to Spanish La Liga side Girona FC on a free transfer ahead of the 2026/27 season, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.
The 28-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year contract with Girona, keeping him at the club until June 2029.
Mumin’s arrival is expected to bolster Girona’s defensive options as the club reshapes its backline ahead of the new campaign.
Born in Accra on June 6, 1998, Mumin stands at 1.88 metres and has built a reputation as a strong and competitive central defender, with his physicality, aerial ability and defensive discipline among his key attributes.
The Ghanaian began his football journey at the renowned Right to Dream Academy before moving to Europe to pursue his professional career.
He spent notable spells with Danish club FC Nordsjaelland and Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes before making the switch to Spain in 2022, when he joined Rayo Vallecano.
During his time at Vallecas, Mumin gained valuable experience in La Liga, making more than 60 official appearances for the Madrid-based club and establishing himself as a dependable option in central defence.
His experience of Spanish football is expected to help him adapt quickly to Girona’s style and demands.
At international level, Mumin made his senior debut for Ghana in June 2024 and has since become part of the Black Stars setup. He was also included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Girona will be hoping the experienced defender can add stability, physical presence and depth to their defensive unit as they prepare for another demanding La Liga campaign.
The move marks another significant chapter in Mumin’s European career, with the Ghanaian now set to compete for a regular starting position at Girona while continuing his development at the highest level of Spanish football.
