The brutality by the police institution, against the members of Democracy Hub, was very unfortunate, in a democracy where the civility of the police as peacemakers meted with armed and innocent demonstrated who are demonstrating against the hard economic situation and bad governance of the party of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in their civic constitutional rights.
He describes the ongoing demonstration as a mental revolution where the reality of the severe economic situation Ghanaians are going through is very difficult and it behooves the government to find a lasting solution through dialogue rather, it seems the state has taken a hard position to turn the country into a police state.
Mr. Ivan Kyei Innocent a Researcher and Social Commentator said this on Ahotor FM Simpieso’s political show programme in Accra.
He said political power is very transient and the president and the stakeholders in charge of the country must rise up to challenge to work and create an enabling environment for the citizens in creating jobs and good governance in ensuring the state to forestall any unforeseen political stability going on the sub-region.
With the height of alleged corruption cases level against the government, there is a need for the youth to rise up and demonstrate against the impunity on the part of the government and the police to use the courts and all forms of state power to stop the demonstration is very unfortunate.
He reiterated that the NPP government must stand up to the challenge and allow the citizen of Ghana to express their democratic rights through demonstration and all forms of democratic means devoid of any intimidation.
Mr. Ivan Kyei Innocent a Researcher and Social Commentator, in his opinion, opined that the Electoral Commission is doing a disservice to the nation by creating limited registration centers for ongoing voter registration.
There is a need for the EC to seek the concerns and suggestions of stakeholders in election management in creating an enabling environment for free and fair elections.
He further stated that he sees more demonstrations going into the future; this he thinks can be the result of bad leadership, alleged corruption, and the strategic position of the government to turn the country into a police state is something he believes is untenable.
