The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has uncovered a shocking revelation in the ongoing investigation into the National Service Scheme (NSS) “ghost names” scandal. According to Dr. Ayine, the former Chief Executive Officer of the NSS, along with other officials, allegedly paid bribes to a Member of Parliament (MP) to suppress media coverage of the scandal and secure public defense.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine disclosed, “We have evidence that the CEO of the National Service Scheme and others paid a Ghanaian MP to kill the story in the media and to defend them.”
Progress in Investigations
The Attorney General provided updates on the progress of the investigation, revealing that eight suspects have so far been interrogated. He noted that some of the individuals have provided substantial information, which has significantly advanced the case.
“We are making progress. Eight suspects have been interrogated, and many of them have started ‘singing,’ so to speak. Their revelations have been very helpful to the investigation,” Dr. Ayine stated.
He assured the public that the investigation into the NSS scandal, as well as the Sky Train project scandal, would be concluded by mid-April 2025.
“I can confirm that by the middle of April, the investigations will conclude, and we will be ready to proceed with prosecutions,” he said confidently.
Evidence of Corruption
Dr. Ayine further revealed that investigators have uncovered illicit financial transactions involving top executives of the NSS.
“There is now concrete evidence of payments made into the accounts of top NSS executives by private vendors and staff of the scheme,” he disclosed, signaling that more details would be revealed in due course.
A Developing Story
The Attorney General described the situation as a “developing story” and hinted at more explosive revelations to come.
“This is just the beginning. As the investigation progresses, more details will come to light. The public can rest assured that we are committed to getting to the bottom of this and holding those responsible accountable,” he assured.
The NSS scandal, involving fraudulent names on the payroll and misappropriation of funds, has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for swift action against those implicated. The added allegations of bribery to silence the media and influence public opinion have deepened public mistrust and heightened demands for justice.
As the investigations near their conclusion, Ghanaians eagerly await further revelations and the Attorney General’s next steps in addressing corruption within the National Service Scheme
