The National Service Scheme (NSS) has announced that its registration portal will be officially shut down this Friday, highlighting a significant concern over the low reporting and registration rate for the 2025/26 service year. Deputy Director-General of Operations, Fuseini Donkor, revealed during an interview on Joy Prime’s AM Show that only 50% of the posted personnel have completed their mandatory registration, despite several reminders from the Scheme. This shortfall is placing unnecessary strain on regional offices as they await the registration of the remaining personnel.
Donkor emphasized that the system has the capacity to handle registrations even if the numbers were much higher, but the key issue is that many of the posted personnel have not yet reported to register. He warned emphatically that there will be no extension to the deadline, noting that the system will be locked on Friday without exception. This firm stance underlines the Scheme’s commitment to enforcing adherence to the timeline and maintaining order in the registration process.
The NSS official also voiced frustration over what he described as deliberate attempts by some prospective personnel to delay their registration, hoping to later manipulate the system to gain preferred postings. According to Donkor, some individuals are intentionally not reporting to their assigned regional offices with the expectation that they can later pay to influence their placements. This behavior, he explained, is causing inefficiencies and frustration for the regional offices, many of which remain underutilized as they await these delayed registrants.
In response, the NSS is urging all deployed personnel to comply immediately with the registration deadline to avoid being locked out of the system and consequently losing their chance for placement. The Scheme promised to issue further updates as the deadline approaches but made clear that no extensions or exceptions will be granted. This underscores the importance for all prospective national service personnel to take prompt action to complete their registration within the stipulated timeframe.
