The Ghana Hajj Task Force has come out strongly against the NPP’s claim of starting the Hajj project, labeling it a “total lie”.
According to Alhaji A.S.A Fuseini, Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Hajj Task Force, the project was undertaken by the Ghana Airports Company and is self-funded, with no taxpayer money involved. This contradicts the NPP’s claims of initiating the project.
It’s worth noting that President Mahama had formed a 5-member Hajj task force in the past to address the high costs of the annual Hajj pilgrimage for Ghanaian Muslims.
However, the current Hajj project in question was commissioned by President Mahama, and he made it clear that it was solely under the Ghana Airports Company.
The Ghana Hajj Task Force has emphasized that the project is solely under the Ghana Airports Company, which further contradicts the NPP’s claims of starting the project.
One of their primary responsibilities is to negotiate arrangements that will drastically reduce Hajj fares. This will enable more Muslims who wish to perform the pilgrimage to fulfil this religious obligation,” he stated.
Additionally, he announced plans to introduce a second holiday for the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, fulfilling a campaign promise to enhance recognition of Islamic festivities in Ghana.
“As part of our promises, we assured the Muslim community of adding one more holiday to the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Once Parliament resumes, we will amend the Holidays Act to officially recognise an additional day for the Sallah festivities,” Mr Mahama said.
