NPP Struggles to Accept 2024 Loss Amid Failed Rigging Attempts – Rashid Tanko

The Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer has refuted claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that their loss in the 2024 general elections was due to their supporters failing to turn out to vote. Speaking on Ahotor FM with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Dr. Tanko offered a sharp critique of the NPP’s post-election narrative, asserting that their defeat stemmed from a failed attempt to manipulate the results rather than voter apathy.

“NPP Struggles to Accept Defeat”

Dr. Tanko stated that the NPP has yet to come to terms with why they lost the election, describing their reaction as one of confusion and denial. “The truth is that the loss has been hard for them to process because they had plans to rig the election in their favour. They collaborated with the Electoral Commission (EC), but we in the NDC matched them every step of the way,” he remarked.

He accused the NPP of attempting to manipulate figures, particularly in the Ashanti Region, a known stronghold of the party. “In the Ashanti Region, they claimed low voter turnout, but the reality was different. There were voters in line, and some even caused disruptions at collation centers when things didn’t go their way. The NDC stood firm to prevent any attempt to manipulate the outcome,” Dr. Tanko emphasized.

“No Room for Manipulation”

Dr. Tanko accused the NPP of relying on falsified figures in previous elections and suggested that their strategy backfired in 2024. “They thought they could repeat the fabricated results of 2020, but the NDC was vigilant. We ensured that the true will of the people was reflected in the results, and we will continue to protect the integrity of Ghana’s elections,” he said.

He further assured Ghanaians that the NDC remains committed to transparent elections. “No fake figures or underhanded tactics will be allowed in this country. The days of manipulation are over. The NDC will always ensure that the true reflection of the people’s will is respected,” Dr. Tanko declared.

A Call for Accountability

The Deputy IT Election Director’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions between Ghana’s two major political parties in the aftermath of the 2024 elections. As the country moves forward, calls for electoral accountability and transparency remain at the forefront of political discourse, with both parties expected to refine their strategies for the next election cycle.
