The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has announced the successful completion of its nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise ahead of the party’s presidential primaries slated for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra, the Committee Chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu, disclosed that the exercise covered all constituencies and external branches of the NPP.
According to Mr. Osei-Owusu, all presidential aspirants will receive copies of the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025, to allow for a two-week verification and feedback period before the final register is approved.
> “The nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise, encompassing all constituencies and external branches, has been successfully concluded. In the interest of full transparency and fairness, all aspirants will be furnished with the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Two weeks will be provided for verification, observations, and feedback before finalising the register,” he stated.
He further explained that while minor administrative discrepancies such as misspelled names, omissions, and inaccurate entries—were identified during the process, they did not compromise the integrity or credibility of the register.
> “I am pleased to report that all such issues are currently being rectified,” Mr. Osei-Owusu assured.
The Committee Chairman also confirmed that the process verified the removal of delegates who had either passed away or forfeited their party membership, in line with Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP constitution.
The five aspirants cleared to contest the party’s flagbearer position are:
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of the Republic
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister for Education
Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Press Secretary to ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor
To ensure transparency and credibility in the upcoming presidential primaries, the Committee announced several key measures. These include:
Exclusive control of election-day security by the Ghana Police Service
Strict access control at all voting centres
Full oversight and supervision by the Electoral Commission (EC)
The Committee added that the EC will oversee the printing, distribution, and monitoring of ballot papers, as well as enforce operational guidelines to guarantee a credible, transparent, and peaceful election process.
