The Minister of State for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has strongly refuted claims made by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament regarding allocations in the 2025 budget to the Office of the President and the Government Machinery.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Ofosu Kwakye accused the opposition MPs of deliberately spreading misinformation to discredit the budget, despite evidence presented by the Finance Minister on the mismanagement of the economy during the NPP’s eight years in power.
“Our colleagues on the other side know that the Finance Minister has provided evidence of the mismanagement of the economy during their tenure. As a result, they have begun a campaign of disinformation aimed at demonizing this budget,” he stated.
He specifically addressed three claims made by the NPP MPs, dismissing them as false.
1. GHS 2.7 Billion Allocation to the Office of the President
The opposition claimed that GHS 2.7 billion had been allocated to the Office of the President and that this figure was significantly higher than the allocation in 2024, suggesting wrongdoing. However, Hon. Ofosu Kwakye categorically denied this, stating that the claim was inaccurate.
2. GHS 78 Million Allocation to the Minister’s Office
The second claim suggested that GHS 78 million had been allocated to the Minister’s office. The Minister rejected this assertion, emphasizing that no such allocation had been made.
3. GHS 50 Million for Research at the Office of the President
Lastly, he debunked claims that GHS 50 million had been earmarked for research at the Office of the President, stressing that this information was completely false.
Hon. Ofosu Kwakye assured the House that the government remains committed to transparency and prudent financial management.
He called on the opposition to engage in constructive discussions rather than resorting to misinformation.
“The figures they are throwing around are incorrect. As someone who directly engages with the Office of the President, I am in a position to correct the distortions and misinformation they have put out,” he asserted.
The Minister urged Ghanaians to scrutinize budgetary discussions carefully and not be misled by political propaganda.
The Minister of Stae for Government communications, Hon. Felix Ofosu kwakye has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring that national resources are utilized effectively for development.
