Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a political activist and physician, has expressed concern over the actions of the parliamentary majority, stating that they have effectively turned the Supreme Court into a “theoretical court,” which he finds alarming.
He criticized Alexander Afenyo-Markin, MP for Efutu, for prematurely filing a case in court without waiting for the Speaker of Parliament to make a formal declaration on the matter in question.
In an interview with the media, Dr. Kennedy stressed that Parliament and the Speaker were not accorded the respect they deserve in this situation.
He emphasized that the Supreme Court does not deal with hypothetical or theoretical cases, meaning that filing a motion before the Speaker’s ruling was improper.
Drawing a comparison to former Speaker Prof. Mike Oquaye, Dr. Kennedy noted that no one took him to court under similar circumstances.
He urged political leaders to come together to ensure peace within Parliament so that government business can proceed smoothly, warning that failure to do so could negatively affect the country’s progress in the coming days.
