The Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as Kwame A Plus, has revealed that he is considering aligning with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
In a Facebook post on January 6, 2025, A Plus shared that Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had approached him about joining the NPP’s ranks in Parliament.
This development follows Kwame A Plus’s victory as the MP-elect for Gomoa Central, where he ran as an independent candidate.
The 2024 Parliamentary election in Gomoa Central was closely contested, with the NPP’s candidate, Eyiah Naana, securing 11,637 votes, while Yawson Muhammed Naeem-Deen garnered 10,112 votes. Kwame A Plus emerged victorious with 14,277 votes.
Currently, the NPP holds 88 seats in Parliament, while the NDC has 183, giving the NDC a nearly two-thirds majority.
“Their proposal includes several intriguing agreements, such as a commitment that they will not contest the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 election,” he added.
According to him, the NDC has also approached him and even invited him for a meeting on January 7, 2025, at 8 am. Although he has friends in both the NDC and the NPP, he will have to disappoint some people tomorrow.
“Let me make this simple and clear: deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will ultimately side with whoever has my interest at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central,” he revealed.
