The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set up a nine-member committee to thoroughly review a post-election report authored by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, as part of efforts to reform the party following its performance in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to the media after a National Council meeting in Accra, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong disclosed that while the Council has officially accepted the report, the party is yet to delve into its contents. He emphasized that the review process may lead to significant constitutional amendments within the party.
“We need to sit down and deliberate on the report. There will be a need for a constitutional amendment. So, based on that, the National Council has constituted a 9-member committee to look at Prof. Mike Oquaye’s report, where issues of proposal or amendment have to be made to our Constitution,” Frimpong said.
He called for calm among party members and the public, cautioning against speculation and misinformation regarding the report’s content. “We want the media and Ghanaians to know that we have just received the report today, April 16. We’re yet to go into details. In the coming days, whatever it is we have to communicate to our people, we will do so,” he noted.
“But we want to caution our members not to be in a haste to say things which are not even in the report, and for people to make several assumptions and accusations,” he warned.
Also addressing the press, NPP Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah reiterated that the post-election report is an internal document meant solely for the party’s strategic reform process.
“It is an internal document that will be used to aid the party’s reform process and help position us for victory in 2028,” Ahiagbah said. “Even though it is not expressly stated, it is clearly implied that the document is not meant for public consumption.”
