Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Amenfi East, Hon. Frederick Korankye, has thrown his weight behind former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the party’s most viable and marketable candidate ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking in a media interview, Hon. Korankye expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia is well-positioned to secure the party’s leadership, particularly in Amenfi East. He disclosed that Dr. Bawumia previously secured about 50 percent of delegate support in the constituency and is optimistic this will rise to between 70 and 75 percent out of an estimated 1,200 delegates in the upcoming contest.
“I am confident the majority of delegates will vote for Dr. Bawumia,” he stated.
Hon. Korankye described the former Vice President as “the only truly sellable candidate” within the NPP, arguing that his nationwide appeal, visibility, and track record make him the natural choice to lead the party.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s presence across the country is evident. “You see his billboards, campaign materials and messages everywhere. There is no need for excessive talk — the evidence is visible,” he said.
Highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s achievements, the former MCE cited his contributions to economic management, digitalisation, and national development initiatives, noting that his record in government speaks for itself.
He further stressed that consistency and credibility are critical in politics, adding that Dr. Bawumia’s experience across key sectors of the economy positions him as the candidate best suited to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 general elections.
Hon. Korankye also commended Dr. Bawumia’s composure in the face of criticism from opponents, describing his decision to ignore what he termed “baseless attacks” as a sign of maturity and leadership readiness.
“Absorbing these nuisance attacks without responding shows wisdom and readiness to lead,” he remarked.
He cautioned against internal attacks among party members, describing them as divisive and driven by personal animosity rather than party interest. He urged all aspirants and supporters to prioritize unity, stressing that cohesion remains key to the NPP’s success.
Calling on delegates nationwide, Hon. Korankye appealed for massive support for Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing that strong delegate backing is essential to securing victory for the party.
He concluded by praising Dr. Bawumia’s humility, commitment to public service, and ability to connect with the grassroots. “He listens, he delivers, and he inspires confidence,” he said.
“Dr. Bawumia has what it takes to lead the NPP forward and win in 2028. The choice is clear — proven leadership must prevail.”
