“NPP Cannot Set Our Agenda: Dr. Rashid Tanko Slams Baseless Accusations Over Chief Justice Suspension”

The Deputy Director of Elections in charge of IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer has responded to claims made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua. Kodua alleged that the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo was part of a calculated plan by the NDC to pave the way for John Dramani Mahama’s third-term bid.

Speaking on Ahotor FM in an interview with Citizen Kofi Owusu, Dr. Tanko dismissed these allegations as baseless and an attempt to distract the NDC from its developmental agenda. “The NPP can not set the agenda for us. We will not follow them into the gutters. They are trying to shift our focus, but we are steadfast in delivering on our promises to Ghanaians,” he said.

Dr. Tanko emphasized that the NDC remains committed to fulfilling the manifesto pledges that won them the trust of Ghanaians. “We are focused on the mandate Ghanaians have given us. Our work speaks for itself, and we won’t allow the NPP’s theatrics to derail us. Electoral matters can be addressed at the appropriate time, not when we are just four months into our term,” he added.

He also criticized the NPP for being “confused” about their electoral defeat. “One moment, they claim the defeat was due to internal factors, citing the Mark Oquaye report. The next moment, Dr. Bawumia is out there contradicting these claims. Their inconsistency shows a lack of focus. While they struggle with their identity, we in the NDC are forging ahead with our plans,” Dr. Tanko stated.

Dr. Tanko further praised  President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership style and connection with the people. “President Mahama’s humility and respect for traditional leaders and opposition figures are unmatched. He doesn’t engage in acts of arrogance, like carrying chairs around and expecting chiefs to stand. His grounded nature has earned him the unwavering respect of Ghanaians,” he remarked.

He concluded by assuring the public that the NDC remains united and fully supportive of John Dramani Mahama. “We are behind President Mahama to deliver on his promises. The respect Ghanaians have for him is unprecedented, and we will not be distracted by baseless accusations from the NPP.”
