Not now”- AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Rome Owusu-Oduro opens up on international future
Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro remains focused on his club career as he continues to make a mark in the Eredivisie and in Europe with AZ Alkmaar.
Born to a Ghanaian father and a Dutch mother, Owusu-Oduro is a Holland youth international and remains eligible to play for the Black Stars.
The 20-year-old shot-stopper has been in fine form this season, leading AZ to the final of the KNVB Cup and the last 16 of the Europa League.
Owusu-Oduro was outstanding for AZ in the second-leg of the Europa League against Tottenham Hotspurs but the English outfit edge the Eredivisie side to the quarter-final of the competition.
Speaking after the game, Owusu-Oduro revealed that he is yet to make a decision between Ghana and Holland despite playing for Holland’s youth team.
“Not now,” he replied when asked about Ghana. “What I told everybody is I have to focus and play for the Young Oranges for now, so we have to do Euros and my focus is here now. I say in the future so it is not my priority now,” he added.
Owusu-Oduro also disclosed the Ayew brothers and Asamoah Gyan are his favourite Ghanaian players.
He said: “I always like the Ayew brothers and Asamoah Gyan and some other players. I watched them with my dad.”
