Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has opened up about his experience with polygamy, addressing common misconceptions about his marital life.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Kosoko clarified that contrary to popular belief, he never had four wives simultaneously.
“I didn’t have four wives at the same time, don’t get it wrong because people are getting it wrong. I had two, but then I lost them. Then I married another two,” he explained.
Despite his personal experience, the actor emphasized that he does not advocate for polygamy, as each person’s circumstances are different. He also highlighted the financial challenges that can arise in polygamous households, using birthday celebrations as an example.
“I’m not supporting polygamy—not everyone can be this lucky. In some polygamous homes, when one child has a birthday, you celebrate elaborately, but by the next child’s birthday, you might not have enough money to do the same. My children and their mothers understand that about me. If I have money, I celebrate; if I don’t, that’s just how it is. It’s a matter of luck with me,” he shared.
Kosoko advised that in polygamous families, it is crucial to express love in different ways so that children feel valued even when material gifts are not always possible.
“You have to show them love in other ways. That way, when material things are not available, they’ll understand that it’s not a lack of love but simply financial constraints,” He concluded.
