No Vetting Committee Member took Gh¢250,000 Bribery – Alhaji Opass

Dep. Eastern Regional Communication director, and first vice Chairman for the New Patriotic Party in Abuakwa North, Alhaji Opass has vehemently asserted that, no member of the vetting committee took bribe from any of the parliamentary hopefuls who went through the vetting process on saturday
Out of a total 75 contenders who took part during the process, 15 were disqualified, leading to disagreements and accusations, and counter – accusations by both Parliamentary hopefuls, and members of the V- Committee, led by Nana Obiri Boahen, the deputy general secretary for the NPP.

Though the National elections and Research directorates are yet to make their findings known, allegations of bribery has become widespread, creating semblance of despondency in the NPP, even before the primaries are held.

The NPP went for their parliamentary vetting in some selected regions last week, namely : Eastern region, Greater Accra, Ashanti region, are among notable regions which took part in the vetting process.

However, the exercise was marred with multiple allegations of infractions, such as inducement by some incumbents to members on the vetting team.

It has been alleged that, an amount of two hundred and fifty thousand ghana cedis (Gh¢250,000) was paid to some persons in the vetting committee, to disqualified prospective contenders as parliamentary candidates for the party in the region, ahead of the 2020 Polls.

Mr. Opass similarly said that, the allegations have been debunked by the committee, however pending the next line of action by the complainants.

Reacting to the contriving information on adekye mu nsem program, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu, on ahotor fm (92.3) on Monday, the deputy eastern regional communication director of the NPP, Alhaji Opass , said the allegations leveled against the committee are malicious and false, orchestrated to stoke confusion in the camp of the party, by detractors of the NPP.

He noted that if any of the aspirant have any leads to that effect, they should furnish the vetting committee, for onward redress.

He emphasized that, if any of the aspirants, has evidence to buttress their claims, they should petition the appeals committee for the necessary Sanction to be meted out in the most speedy way.

Alhaji Opass, indicated that, the vetting went well, irrespective of the emerging accusations by some of the parliamentary hopefuls. The party is booked to go for their parliamentary primaries in April, 2020.

Lawyer Philip Addison, of the 2012 supreme court elections petition fame is among the 15 aspirants who suffered disqualification.
