No Tears or Sympathy for Ken Ofori-Atta – Abraham Koomson

Tema, Ghana – The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has declared that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta does not deserve any sympathy, given the economic hardships his leadership caused.

According to Mr. Koomson, Ofori-Atta’s tenure brought immense suffering to Ghanaians, and no one should feel sorry for him.

“No tears for Ken Ofori-Atta. Nobody should sympathize with this man,” he stated.

He recalled that even members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) petitioned President Akufo-Addo to remove him due to his unpopularity, yet their calls were ignored.

Mr. Koomson also raised concerns about whether the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had sufficient evidence to prosecute Ofori-Atta but was prevented from doing so by the former President and his administration.

He further criticized the ex-minister for implementing policies that burdened ordinary Ghanaians, citing the controversial E-Levy as a prime example of his disregard for public sentiment.

“He doesn’t deserve any apology or sympathy. He has destroyed this country. Ghanaians opposed the E-Levy, but he ignored them and even mocked them with an E-Levy cake,” Mr. Koomson remarked.

His remarks comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor declared Ken Ofori-Atta a “wanted fugitive.”

At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng disclosed that Ofori-Atta had allegedly fled Ghana to evade investigations into corruption allegations.

Mr. Agyebeng also refuted media reports suggesting that OSP officials had raided Ofori-Atta’s residence on Tuesday, February 11. Instead, he claimed the former minister staged the supposed raid as a ploy to mislead the public and discredit the OSP’s work.

However, Abraham Koomson insists that, given the hardships Ken Ofori-Atta inflicted on Ghanaians, “he does not deserve sympathy, and nobody should shed a tear for him.”
