Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has assured traders at the Makola Market in Accra that their livelihoods will be safeguarded under an NDC government. He made this promise during a visit to the Odododiodio constituency as part of his three-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, aimed at rallying support ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Addressing the traders, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that the NDC values the contributions of small businesses and informal traders to the economy. He pledged that no trader would face harassment or threats of eviction if the NDC is elected back into power.
“Under an NDC government, no one will disturb you or attempt to evict you from your places of work. We recognize the importance of your business to the economy and your families, and we will work to create an enabling environment for you to thrive,” he assured.
The National Chairman also took the opportunity to promote the NDC’s flagship 24-hour economy policy, explaining its potential benefits to the traders. According to him, the policy aims to boost economic activity around the clock, creating more opportunities for businesses and jobs, especially for the youth.
“This policy will energize the economy, creating countless opportunities for everyone, particularly young people. It is a game-changer for our nation,” he stated.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah expressed gratitude to the people of Odododiodio for their consistent support for the NDC in past elections. He urged them to continue this tradition by voting massively for the party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and the parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
“We thank you for your unwavering support over the years. We count on you once again to choose the NDC, a party that truly prioritizes your welfare and economic empowerment,” he said.
The traders welcomed his message with enthusiasm, expressing hope for improved conditions under an NDC government. Many shared their concerns about current challenges, including rising costs of goods and frequent disruptions to their businesses, and expressed optimism about the proposed policies.
The visit forms part of the NDC’s broader strategy to engage grassroots supporters and demonstrate its readiness to address the pressing needs of Ghanaians if voted back into power in 2024.
