The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Mustapha Gbande, has issued a stern warning to the Electoral Commission (EC), cautioning that there will be no election held in the Amenfi Central constituency without the participation of an NDC representative.
This comes in the wake of a decision by the Sekondi High Court to disqualify Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the sitting Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, from contestthe upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the court’s ruling, Mr. Gbande described the decision as unjust and vowed that the NDC would take all necessary steps to ensure the matter is resolved.
He emphasized that the party is prepared to formally write to the Electoral Commission to explain what he perceives as errors in the process, leading to the disqualification of their candidate.
He expressed confidence that the EC would acknowledge these errors and work to address them in time for the elections.
During an interview on Ahoto FM’s morning show with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Mr. Gbande reiterated his party’s stance, asserting that no election would take place in Amenfi Central until the issue is resolved.
He called on the EC to recognize the gravity of the situation and act swiftly to correct the mistakes made in the disqualification process.
In response to another issue concerning NDC member Kwakye Ackah, who has been accused of document forgery, Mr. Gbande was unequivocal in stating that the party would not tolerate such actions.
He revealed that Ackah could face expulsion from the party, as his conduct has been viewed as a deliberate attempt to create discord within the NDC.
“We have given him numerous opportunities to rectify his ways, but he continues to engage in misconduct,” Mr. Gbande stated, adding that the party would not allow one individual to hold them to ransom.
