Nine Arrested Over Deadly Mobile Money Robbery at Fiapre-Zongo

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Fiapre-Zongo, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality, which claimed two lives and left three others injured.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after officers received a distress call about an ongoing robbery. Although police responded promptly, the attackers had fled before their arrival. Investigations revealed that the robbers targeted Amina Abu, a 30-year-old mobile money vendor, and made away with GH¢30,000 in cash.

During the attack, Amina Abu, Khadija Abu, 23, Anifa Tanko, 24, and Ibrahim Osei, 40, sustained gunshot injuries after being hit by pellets fired by the assailants. Police also found an unidentified man with severe injuries lying near Ibrahim Osei’s residence, with a black face mask beside him.

All five victims were rushed to the Sunyani Regional Teaching Hospital for treatment. However, Ibrahim Osei and the unidentified man later died while receiving medical care. Police recovered six spent BB cartridge casings from the crime scene, which have been retained as exhibits for forensic examination.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects disembarked from a cattle truck travelling towards the Berekum direction before carrying out the robbery. Acting on the intelligence, police alerted officers at the Twumasikrom checkpoint, leading to the interception of two cattle trucks and the arrest of the nine suspects.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be processed for prosecution. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.

The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects who are still at large and bring all those involved in the robbery to face the full rigours of the law.
