Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Genort Rohr, is expected to sign a new two year contract by next week according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“We have told him. He must live in Nigeria. His salary will be in Naira. He must go around the leagues and see how he can nurture the players,”
Genort Rohr, has been in charge of the Nigerian senior national team since July 2016 on a €45,000 a month contract which is set to end in July this year.
Discussions have been going on for sometime now with NFF president Amaju Pinnick outlining some of the requirements in the coach’s new contract last month.
“We have told him. He must live in Nigeria. His salary will be in Naira. He must go around the leagues and see how he can nurture the players,” the NFF president says.
“The executive committee mandated the General Secretary to liaise with Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, with a view to concluding all matters around his new contract within the next one week,” the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said in a statement in Abuja.
The 66 year old former Gabon and Niger coach has faced a lot of criticism for neglecting players in the National Professional Football League (NPFL) and not staying in Nigeria.
Since taking charge of the national team, he has qualified them to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and won bronze at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
He will now be tasked with qualifying the Super Eagles for AFCON 2021 in Cameroon and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Finals in Qatar.
