NIB Staff Raise Concerns Over Alleged Workplace Discrimination and HR Management Practices

Some staff members of the National Investment Bank (NIB) have expressed concerns over what they describe as continued marginalization and unfair treatment within the institution despite the change in government following the 2024 general elections.

According to information gathered from some staff members, concerns have been raised about the continued influence of individuals perceived to be affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the bank’s management structure. The staff allege that these individuals are undermining the objectives and interests of members associated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professionals Forum.

Central to the concerns is the role of the bank’s Chief Human Resource Development Manager, Ernestina Kutin. Some staff members claim that despite efforts to address issues relating to promotions, transfers, and staff welfare, their concerns have not received the necessary attention.

The aggrieved staff further allege that some employees believed to be affiliated with the NPP continue to benefit from promotions and favorable treatment, while qualified personnel associated with the NDC are allegedly being transferred or sidelined.

According to the staff, they experienced similar treatment during the previous administration and expected conditions to improve following the NDC’s electoral victory. They contend that individuals who actively supported the party’s return to power should not be subjected to what they describe as discriminatory practices.

The staff are therefore calling on the Presidency and the leadership of the NDC to investigate the matter and address their concerns as a matter of urgency.

Some employees also allege that the Chief Human Resource Development Manager has made statements suggesting she is not subject to external influence regarding personnel decisions. However, these claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified.

Role of the NDC Professionals Forum After the 2024 Elections

The concerns emerge amid broader discussions about the role of the NDC Professionals Forum following the party’s victory in the 2024 elections.

The forum played a significant role in mobilizing support, providing policy input, and engaging professionals from various sectors during the campaign period. With the NDC now in government, the forum faces both opportunities and challenges as it seeks to contribute to national development and support the implementation of government policies.

One of the key challenges confronting the forum is managing the expectations of its members. Many professionals who actively supported the party may anticipate greater involvement in governance and public administration. Balancing these expectations while maintaining unity and professionalism will be critical to the forum’s effectiveness.

Another challenge is ensuring that the expertise of its members is translated into practical, evidence-based policy recommendations. The forum must continue to serve as a bridge between government and professionals by providing solutions to national challenges rather than functioning solely as a political platform.

The forum must also work to maintain its relevance beyond the election period through sustained policy engagement, research, advocacy, and stakeholder consultations.

Despite these challenges, the NDC Professionals Forum has considerable prospects. With the party in government, it has the opportunity to contribute to policy formulation and implementation through the expertise of its members in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, technology, finance, and governance.

The forum can also support the government’s development agenda by offering technical advice, conducting policy reviews, and promoting innovation across various sectors of the economy.

Furthermore, it can strengthen collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations to advance national development objectives.

Ultimately, the success of the forum will depend on its ability to remain united, professional, and focused on promoting good governance and sustainable development while upholding the principles and values of the National Democratic Congress.
