The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, has urged healthcare providers to desist from imposing illegal charges and co-payments on members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He said healthcare providers have a responsibility to ensure quality healthcare delivery while protecting the rights, dignity and welfare of NHIS members.
Dr Bampoe made the call during the commissioning of the NHIA’s new Dormaa West office at Nkrankwanta, where he also urged staff of the Authority to remain responsive, solution-oriented and committed to treating NHIS members with dignity and empathy.
He stressed the need for the NHIA to uphold its commitment to Ghanaians in every community, saying members must be able to access the services and support to which they are entitled under the scheme.
The NHIA CEO also encouraged NHIS members whose memberships have become inactive to dial *929# to reactivate them.
He further advised members to update their contact details at the nearest NHIA office, explaining that accurate information would help improve communication between the Authority and members and enhance service delivery.
Calls for improved logistics
The Dormaa West Member of Parliament, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, commended Dr Bampoe for his contribution towards the construction of the new NHIA office.
He appealed to the NHIA to replace the district’s vehicle, which he said is more than 10 years old, to improve the Authority’s operations and service delivery in the area.
Mr Oppong Asamoah also disclosed that he had requested the establishment of a claims centre in the Bono Region to reduce the burden on healthcare providers who currently have to travel to the Ashanti Region to process claims.
He said establishing a claims centre in the region would make the processing of claims more accessible and convenient for healthcare providers in the Bono Region.
District Assembly commends MP
The Dormaa West District Chief Executive, Stephen Azorba Awuni, said the NHIA had operated in the district for more than a decade from an Area Council office secured through the efforts of the MP.
He commended Mr Oppong Asamoah for his contribution towards the construction of the new NHIA office and his continued commitment to development in the district.
The commissioning of the new office is expected to improve the NHIA’s presence and accessibility in Dormaa West while bringing its services closer to residents and NHIS members in the district.
