The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢256,489,525.15 to accredited healthcare providers across Ghana as reimbursement for claims submitted under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). The payments, made in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, 2026, covered services rendered to NHIS members between January and June 2026.
The latest disbursement follows an earlier payment of GH¢219,838,955.41 made on July 1, 2026, for claims up to May, as part of the Authority’s commitment to reimbursing healthcare providers on a monthly basis. According to the NHIA, private healthcare providers received GH¢113,858,650.46 (44.39%), public healthcare providers received GH¢97,344,522.49 (37.95%), while mission health facilities received GH¢45,286,342.20 (17.66%).
The Authority said the latest payment brings its total claims disbursement for 2026 to approximately GH¢1.46 billion, underscoring its commitment to the timely settlement of legitimate claims and the uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services. The NHIA noted that prompt reimbursement is critical to ensuring healthcare facilities have the financial resources to provide quality care to insured patients.
Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, said timely payment of claims remains essential to the effective management of the NHIS. He explained that regular reimbursements enable healthcare providers to procure medicines, replenish medical supplies, maintain operations and continue delivering essential healthcare services without interruption.
Dr. Bampoe reaffirmed the NHIA’s commitment to processing and paying eligible claims promptly, stressing that the Authority remains focused on supporting accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for all NHIS members across the country.
