The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the application fee for the ordinary 32-page passport booklet will be reduced from GH₵500 to GH₵350, effective Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the 30 percent price cut on Sunday, November 9, explaining that the new fee already includes the courier service charge, so applicants will not incur extra costs during passport delivery. Applicants only need to verify their identity with their Ghana Card and sign upon receipt.
This fee reduction follows President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to make passports more affordable and accessible, which Minister Ablakwa initially disclosed in Parliament on March 13, 2025. Parliament has since amended the Fees and Charges Act to facilitate this change.
Processing times are now 15 working days for standard service and three days for expedited applications. Additionally, Ghana has fully replaced old biometric passports with modern, chip-embedded ones that comply with international standards.
The Ministry continues 24-hour passport application operations across all 16 regions, aiming to establish functional centres nationwide by December 2025.
