New Board of Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited Tasked with Strategic Growth and Sector Revitalization

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has inaugurated a seven-member board for Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited (GHEL), with a strong mandate to drive strategic repositioning, operational excellence, and sector investment.

At the swearing-in ceremony in Accra, the Minister underscored the potential of GHEL to become a leader in the burgeoning automotive and machinery industries in Ghana. She emphasized the need for the board to capitalize on opportunities within the local and international markets to transform the company into a profitable and innovative entity.

“Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited is a sleeping giant with untapped potential. It is imperative that we recover lost contracts and establish new, sustainable partnerships. This board must lead the charge to restore GHEL’s prominence, attract investment, and create jobs for our youth,” she urged.

Hon. Ofosu-Agyare called for an aggressive push to secure multiple partnerships and projects, highlighting the government’s broader agenda of industrialization and job creation. “Exclusivity is not our aim. Efficiency, diversification, and innovation are key. I envision a GHEL that collaborates widely and employs more Ghanaians while contributing significantly to the machinery and auto assembly sectors,” she added.

Vision for Transformation and Impact

The newly appointed Chairperson of the board, Dr. Daniel Oblle-Quaye, pledged the board’s commitment to the company’s revitalization. He assured stakeholders of their resolve to support GHEL’s CEO, Awal Mutalib, in achieving the government’s vision for industrial growth.

“Our mission is clear: to make Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited a household name synonymous with excellence and opportunity. Together with the CEO and the rest of the board, we will ensure GHEL delivers on its mandate, creates employment opportunities, and drives the president’s industrialization agenda,” Dr. Oblle-Quaye stated.

A Strong Team for Strategic Execution

Joining Dr. Oblle-Quaye and Awal Mutalib on the board are Ing. Emmanuel Oman Kabu, Ahmed Issah, Nana Kwasi Ofori Ababbio, Gbene Iddrisu John Dimah, and Seidu Yonye. Collectively, the board brings diverse expertise and a shared commitment to reinvigorate GHEL.

The board’s strategic goals include boosting operational efficiency, restoring profitable contracts, and enhancing local assembly operations. These objectives align with Ghana’s broader vision of becoming a manufacturing hub for machinery and vehicles in West Africa.

A Promising Future for GHEL

With this new leadership team at the helm, GHEL is poised for a turnaround that could redefine its role in Ghana’s industrial landscape. By focusing on innovation, partnerships, and capacity-building, the company is expected to contribute significantly to economic growth and youth employment in the coming years.
