Neglected Abetifi Referral Hospital to Get New Lifeline After Technical Assessment

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu East, Mr. Samuel Asamoah, has assured residents that the long-abandoned Abetifi Referral Hospital project will soon be reconstructed, following concerns that parts of the structure have become weak and unsafe.

The Abetifi Referral Hospital project, located in Abetifi in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, has remained abandoned for several years, leaving residents without access to the expected healthcare facility.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement to outline the Assembly’s development plans for 2026, Mr. Asamoah disclosed that a technical assessment conducted on the facility revealed severe deterioration in most parts of the structure due to prolonged neglect.

According to him, sections of the building may have to be pulled down to pave the way for a stronger and safer hospital infrastructure.

He assured the people of Kwahu East that measures are currently being put in place to reconstruct the hospital to meet modern healthcare standards and enhance access to quality medical services within the district.

The DCE stressed that completing the Abetifi Referral Hospital will significantly reduce the need for patients to be referred to other districts and will also ease pressure on existing health facilities.

Mr. Asamoah further commended the Assembly’s performance in 2025, describing it as impressive due to the successful completion of several developmental projects across the district.
