NDC’s Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer Dismisses Minority Chief Whip’s Threat Over Ablekuma North Election Dispute
The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer, has dismissed threats made by the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, to disrupt parliamentary proceedings if Akua Afriyie is not declared the winner of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election.
Addressing supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Annor Dompreh issued a strong warning, stating that his party would make governance difficult should their candidate not be declared the rightful winner. His comments have sparked concerns over potential parliamentary deadlock and heightened political tensions.
However, Dr. Tanko Computer, in a sharp response, questioned the ability of the minority caucus to act on such a threat, labeling it as an attempt to intimidate democratic institutions. He emphasized that Ghana’s electoral process is guided by law and due process, not coercion or threats.
“Elections are won through the ballot box and legal processes, not through intimidation or threats to disrupt governance,” Dr. Tanko Computer asserted. “If the NPP believes there are issues with the election outcome, they should follow the appropriate legal channels rather than making baseless threats.”
He further urged the Electoral Commission and the judiciary to remain firm in upholding the integrity of the electoral process, stressing that Ghana’s democracy must not be held hostage by political interests.
The Ablekuma North parliamentary election has become a flashpoint of contention, with both parties claiming victory. The dispute underscores the growing political tensions as the NPP and NDC continue to battle over parliamentary seats in a highly competitive political landscape.
As the nation watches closely, stakeholders are calling for calm and adherence to due process, ensuring that election disputes are settled through the appropriate legal frameworks rather than political brinkmanship.
