NDC Warns of Potential Chaos Over Voter Register Discrepancies, Urges Electoral Commission Action-Dr. Rashid Tanko

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed grave concerns and protested against irregularities observed during the recent voter exhibition exercise. The party claims that there has been a wholesale transfer of voters without their knowledge, which could lead to significant chaos and confusion on election day.

Reports indicate that voters in certain constituencies have found their names transferred to distant locations without their consent. This issue, if not addressed, could disrupt the electoral process. The NDC is calling on the Electoral Commission to urgently address their petition and resolve the issues raised to ensure a transparent, free, and fair election.

Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections in charge of IT for the NDC, voiced these concerns on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra. Dr. Tanko-Computer revealed that approximately 3,000 voters have allegedly been transferred from the constituency of Minority Leader Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson. He believes this undermines the electoral process and stresses that the Electoral Commission must address the NDC’s petition urgently to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the December 7th polls.

Dr. Tanko-Computer has called for a forensic audit of the voter register to verify its credibility and correct any errors before the elections.

In a related development, the NDC has declared that the current voter register is unsuitable for the December 7th elections. Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer has criticized the register, citing numerous mistakes and irregularities.

“The register is in a deplorable state and cannot be used for any purpose,” Dr. Tanko-Computer stated. “We are seeing instances where polling stations are reporting transfers of more than 1,000 voters, which is far beyond the 700-voter limit. This indicates serious problems with the register.”

On August 27, the NDC formally requested an emergency meeting with the Electoral Commission to address discrepancies found in the provisional register provided to political parties during the exhibition exercise.
