NDC Walks the Talk: Suhuyini Applauds Mahama’s Commitment in 2025 Budget

Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, has expressed excitement over the 2025 Budget Statement, stating that it seeks to restore trust in politicians and governance.

Reacting to the budget presented by the Finance Minister, Suhuyini noted that many young Ghanaians have become skeptical about politicians, believing they make grand promises during campaigns only to abandon them once in power.

However, he emphasized that the 2025 budget proves otherwise, showing that leaders like President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remain committed to their campaign pledges.

“I was excited as a young Ghanaian that this budget sought to erase the notion that politicians only make sweet promises during campaigns without truly intending to fulfill them. This budget makes a difference by proving that some politicians, like His Excellency President John Mahama and the NDC, actually implement what they promise,” he stated.

He cited key campaign promises that have been reflected in the budget, including the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, the abolition of the betting tax and E-Levy, and the introduction of an apprenticeship program.

“Some thought the Women’s Development Bank was just a politically palatable idea that would later be renegotiated, but it has been captured in the budget with provisions made for it. Similarly, some doubted our promise to abolish the betting tax and E-Levy, thinking we would later claim the country was too indebted to do so.

But the Finance Minister has confirmed that by Wednesday, those bills will be presented to Parliament, and those levies will be scrapped,” Suhuyini explained.

Hon. Suhuyini also highlighted the budget’s focus on social welfare, particularly its provisions for victims of natural disasters.

“For the first time, we have a budget that provides for the flood victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage and the Ketu South tidal wave disaster. This is a humane budget. Education is no longer going to be about politics; it is going to be what it is supposed to be,” he emphasized.

Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini believes that the 2025 budget has set a new standard where political promises translate into real action, rebuilding public confidence in politicians and democracy, and reinforcing the credibility of governance under the NDC administration.
