NDC to Demand Response from Electoral Commission on Petition, Warns of Taking Action if EC Fails to Address Concerns

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is preparing to formally write to the Electoral Commission (EC) today, demanding a response to the petition it submitted during last week’s “Enough is Enough” demonstrations.

The petition outlined the party’s concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the voter registration process, including illegal voter transfers. However, the NDC has stated it will no longer present further evidence to the EC, claiming the Commission has demonstrated a lack of trustworthiness in addressing their concerns.

The NDC’s leadership, including National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, expressed their frustration over the EC’s inaction.

According to Gyamfi, the party believes the Commission has failed to take their allegations of electoral malpractice seriously, which undermines the credibility of the electoral process.

The NDC had initially raised concerns about the transfer of voters to different constituencies without proper documentation or justification, but the party now feels that presenting more evidence to the EC is futile.

In their communication to the EC, the NDC is expected to demand immediate action on the issues raised, stressing the need for transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

Sammy Gyamfi warned that if the EC does not provide a satisfactory response or take meaningful steps to rectify the situation, the NDC will be left with no choice but to explore other measures, potentially including legal action or mass mobilization.

The NDC has also reached out to members of the diplomatic community, civil society organizations (CSOs), and organized labor, seeking their support in pressuring the EC to uphold the integrity of the electoral system.

They have indicated that they will continue to escalate their efforts if the Commission remains unresponsive.

This latest development underscores growing tensions between the NDC and the Electoral Commission, with the opposition party signaling its readiness to take matters into its own hands should the EC fail to act. The NDC maintains that the credibility of future elections is at stake, and that the EC must address their grievances to prevent further erosion of public trust in the electoral process.
