The Member of Parliament for Tain, Hon. Sulemana Adama has reaffirmed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains the majority in Parliament despite recent rulings by the Supreme Court. Speaking ahead of today’s parliamentary session, Hon. Adama emphasized that while the Supreme Court may issue rulings, Parliament operates independently and does not take direct instructions from the judiciary.
He explained that any ruling from the Supreme Court must first be communicated to the Speaker of Parliament, who is responsible for determining its implications for the House. Until the Speaker makes an official declaration on the matter, the NDC maintains its majority status in Parliament.
“If the Speaker decides today that the four affected MPs can occupy their seats, we will abide by his directive. However, the current situation does not mean that the NPP has automatically become the majority party in Parliament. Until the Speaker makes a formal pronouncement, the NDC remains in the majority,” Hon. Adama stated.
He also clarified that the NDC’s position is not based solely on the results of the last elections but on the legal and procedural framework that governs parliamentary affairs. As Parliament convenes today, the NDC will continue to assert its majority status unless an official change is declared by the Speaker.
