NDC Slams NPP, Defends Record on Governance and Procurement–Mahdi Gibril

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been described as one of the most confused political parties in Ghana’s recent history, amid what critics say are increasing attempts to discredit the National Democratic Congress (NDC) through press conferences laden with propaganda.

Criticism has also been directed at former President Nana Akufo-Addo over his recent call on the current government to address challenges facing the Kyebi Hospital, a move some have described as surprising.

According to the Director of Elections and Information Technology of the NDC, it is inconsistent for the former President to raise concerns about healthcare infrastructure when, in his view, several government hospital projects initiated under Agenda 111 were left uncompleted during his tenure.

He made these remarks on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.

He further argued that it is unfortunate for the NPP, now in opposition, to raise issues about procurement infractions. He alleged that the practice of sole sourcing under the previous administration was widely abused, leading to the mismanagement of public funds and the award of contracts that did not deliver value.

He maintained that the NDC government is committed to responsible leadership and will not repeat what he described as past governance failures.

Touching on claims surrounding road contracts under the “Big Push” agenda, he dismissed them as baseless and politically motivated attempts to undermine the stability and economic progress of the current administration, barely a year and a half into office.

He also called on party members to unite and support the government, emphasizing the need to put aside differences and focus on long-term development goals aimed at securing victory in the 2028 general elections.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a nationwide membership registration exercise as part of efforts to expand and strengthen its grassroots support base.

The Director of Elections and Information Technology of the party, Mahdi Jibril, announced the initiative in a Facebook post, stating that the exercise began on February 10 and will run until March 30, 2026.

He explained that the registration is being conducted across all party branches nationwide and will be managed at the branch level to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Branch secretaries are expected to oversee the process at designated meeting points, where new members can register and existing members can update their personal details.

Mr. Jibril encouraged supporters and sympathisers to actively participate, noting that maintaining an accurate and comprehensive membership database is crucial for strengthening the party’s organisation and mobilisation ahead of future political activities.

The registration drive, he added, forms part of the NDC’s broader strategy to reinforce its internal structures and promote greater grassroots participation nationwide.
