The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to officially launch the Blackstar Experience, an ambitious and all-encompassing programme aimed at breathing new life into Ghana’s tourism, culture, and creative arts sectors. The much-anticipated launch will take place this Thursday, drawing attention from key stakeholders, industry players, and cultural enthusiasts across the country and beyond.
The Blackstar Experience is positioned as the NDC’s flagship initiative to reimagine and transform the cultural and tourism landscape in Ghana. According to party sources, the programme will serve as a blueprint for leveraging the country’s rich heritage, artistic potential, and natural beauty as major drivers of economic development, job creation, and global influence.
Ghana, known as the “Gateway to Africa,” boasts a vibrant cultural identity shaped by centuries of tradition, diverse ethnic heritage, and historical significance. From the majestic forts and castles along the coast to the spirited festivals like Homowo and Aboakyer, the country’s cultural canvas is rich with stories that continue to fascinate visitors. Ghana’s tourism potential received a major boost during the Year of Return in 2019, which attracted thousands of African descendants from the diaspora — a momentum many believe should be sustained and expanded.
The creative arts industry, too, has seen a surge in global recognition, with Ghanaian music, fashion, and film gaining traction on international platforms. Yet, challenges such as limited funding, policy gaps, and lack of infrastructure continue to stifle growth.
Enter the Blackstar Experience, which promises to offer strategic investment in cultural infrastructure, talent development, heritage site restoration, and global marketing campaigns. According to insiders, the initiative will also include a series of festivals, art exhibitions, tourism expos, and talent showcases, geared towards creating a sustainable ecosystem for creatives and entrepreneurs.
“The Blackstar Experience is more than a programme; it’s a movement to elevate Ghana’s soul to the global stage,” an NDC spokesperson noted. “It’s about telling our story with pride, preserving our heritage, and empowering our creatives to thrive.”
Thursday’s launch is expected to unveil key elements of the programme and outline a roadmap for implementation.
As Ghana continues to position itself as a cultural beacon in Africa, initiatives like the Blackstar Experience signal a renewed commitment to harnessing the full potential of its tourism and creative industries — not just as national assets, but as global treasures.
