NDC Raises Alarm Over Illegal Re-Collation of Election Results at Tesano Police Depot

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has alleged that the Electoral Commission (EC) acted unilaterally in conducting a re-collation of election results for some constituencies at the Tesano Police Depot without the knowledge or involvement of the party.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, December 13, 2024, Asiedu Nketia criticized the EC’s actions, describing them as illegal and lacking transparency. He emphasized that the NDC was neither consulted nor officially informed about the process, raising serious concerns over the integrity of the exercise.

“We were not informed about any such meeting or activity at the Tesano Police Depot. When our officials in the affected constituencies sought clarification, we told them outright that we had no prior knowledge of it. I even advised some of them to stay away because the process appeared shrouded in illegitimacy,” he stated.

Legal Action to Ensure Accountability

In a bid to prevent any potential escalation of tension, the NDC has initiated legal proceedings, filing for an interlocutory injunction to halt the re-collation exercise. Asiedu Nketia stressed the party’s commitment to resolving the issue through lawful means while ensuring that justice is served.

“We are determined to ensure that the right processes are followed. To this end, we have filed an injunction to stop this questionable activity at the Tesano Police Depot. We want to avoid any situation that could heighten tensions or undermine peace,” he added.

Warning to Electoral Commission Officials

The NDC National Chairman also issued a stern warning to EC officials involved in the exercise, urging them to desist from actions that could undermine Ghana’s democratic principles. He assured that the party would hold accountable any individual found culpable of violating electoral laws.

“This conduct by some EC officials is not only unacceptable but also a direct affront to the rule of law. We will not sit back and allow anyone to derail the democratic progress of this country. Those involved must cease immediately or face the consequences of their actions,” Asiedu Nketia declared.

Upholding Democratic Integrity

The NDC’s swift response underscores its commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity and ensuring accountability in the democratic process. The party has urged its supporters to remain calm as it pursues the matter in court, reaffirming its dedication to upholding peace and justice.

This development is likely to reignite discussions around the transparency of Ghana’s electoral processes, with the NDC vowing to stand firm in protecting the will of the people.
